Portal Team Building Day

The Portal Group Operations Team recently attended an off site day which was planned and organised by Portal’s Food and Hospitality partner, ISS at their Hub facility in Leeds.

The theme of the day was ‘Building an effective team’ and each team member had completed a Belbin Profiling Questionnaire prior to the event.

The day started with an ice breaking exercise and then led into interesting presentations on the makeup of a team, results from the profiling and an entertaining team exercise building a bridge from only newspaper and sellotape. It had to be big enough to enable someone to go under and strong enough to take the weight of a cup of coffee.

The main group exercise was then unveiled to be a ‘Hells Kitchen’ type event where we were split into 3 teams to prepare a starter, main course and dessert. We all washed, peeled, sliced and cooked and then presented the food at an evening dinner back to the group. The menu was:

English watercress soup with Kirkham Lancashire cheese dumplings, scented rapeseed oil

Rump of Hardwick Lamb, white bean cassoulet, baby leeks, chantenay carrots and truffle aroma

Sticky toffee pudding, whipped mascarpone vanilla cream and butterscotch sauce.

The day proved to be a great success for Portal’s valued site management team.
