Birmingham Digital Day
Birmingham Digital Day- Sponsored by Portal Data Centres
Birmingham Digital Day 2nd May 2013- Birmingham Science Park Aston. Sponsored by Portal Data Centres
Birmingham has a clear focus on being a city of innovation, as a city that provides its population and its businesses with the resources and infrastructure they need in today’s data driven society to flourish in this new and rapidly evolving information driven environment. Birmingham City Council in collaboration with LINX and Portal Data Centres are hosting a free event that provides the opportunity to learn more about the city’s current and forthcoming initiatives to enhance it enviable digital reputation.
The increasing data flow of a broad range of organisations, from cutting edge digital companies, on line content providers, to modern specialist manufacturing plants is well documented. This results in a need for cities to be able to provide the infrastructure, connectivity and innovation to help them thrive efficiently and compete effectively. Birmingham Digital Day at Birmingham Science Park Aston will provide a meaningful insight into what the city currently offers cutting edge businesses today, and what exciting developments are occurring in line with Birmingham Council’s Smart City vision. If you currently, or are considering operating in Birmingham, you need to be there.
There will be succinct and informative presentations into the benefits of an Internet Exchange Point going into the City, allowing networks to interconnect directly, and providing benefits in cost, latency and bandwidth. This raises the City’s digital infrastructure status, and the presentations will provide your organisation a detailed understanding of Internet Exchanges and peering by leading provider LINX.
There will be an insight into the increasing importance of effective data storage and the need for secure and resilient Data Centres offering connectivity and efficient power. Portal Data Centres will provide an overview of their new Aston Datacentre, providing Tier 3 resilience and a PUE of 1.3, providing the colocation facility necessary to support the rising demands on business IT infrastructure.
Complimented by an overview of the importance of these attributes to Birmingham’s reputation as a Digital City by James McKay Councillor for Green, Safe and Smart City. There will also be the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and organisations, with a social event after the presentations.
The event is to be held at Birmingham Science Park Aston in the Faraday Wharf building that is easily accessible by public or private transportation. With the event scheduled for the afternoon of the 2nd May (Schedule below) it is a must attend for those organisations who understand the importance of efficient, effective and reliable data flow and are currently or intend to be part of Birmingham’s Smart future. There will be complimentary catering on the day. For further information please contact iain.shipley@portalgroup.uk.com
